Our History:
American Legion Post 34 (Frank W. Wright Post 34) in Cave Creek has served local veterans and the community for generations. Founded in the 1930s when veterans in the Cavecreek* area began meeting to support one another, as well as the growing community, American Legion Post 34 was chartered in 1947. American Legion Post 34 continues to serve as a gathering place dedicated to veteran support, patriotism, and community service after nearly 80 years.
Early efforts led by Cave Creek pioneer, and World War I Veteran, Frank W. Wright helped establish the local American Legion presence. In 1934, Frank and his wife, Hazel, donated the land which continues to be the home to Post 34.
*Cavecreek was one word until 1972 when the U. S. Post Office officially changed the name to Cave Creek.
April 9,1946, ground was broken for Post 34’s American Legion Cavecreek Clubhouse. After the floor was poured, American Legion Post 34 held its opening dance on the new floor May 4. Dances, barbeques, fundraisers, and patriotic and other community events continued to be held on the floor until actual construction on the building commenced in late December 1946. When the building was completed in Spring 1947, a big celebration was held for the entire community.
